The England Boxing National Amateur Championships showcased the sport's future talent, with Ruby White claiming her maiden senior national title in the flyweight category. White, a World U19 champion and four-time European age group champion, defeated Madi Gittens of Box Club in the elite finals held in Derby. This victory marked her first senior national title and extended her unbeaten run to over 60 contests.
White expressed her elation, stating, 'I'm thrilled. I believe I proved many people wrong by winning this tournament in my first year as a senior. The leap from youth to senior level is significant, and I think I demonstrated that I belong on these major stages and hope to compete for GB soon.' She attributed her success to her unwavering dedication and unrelenting desire to be the best.
Men's flyweight Billy Macey became a two-time national champion after his opponent, Yusuf Uddin, was disqualified and subsequently shoved the referee. Macey emphasized the importance of sportsmanship, saying, 'Regardless of the outcome, one must maintain their dignity and composure.' The championships also saw Adekali Kargbo dethrone reigning 90kg champion Akinola Tijani, while Clinton Achusim secured the super-heavyweight title. Repton's Amo Singh and GB boxer Joe Turner also emerged victorious in their respective categories. The GB squad is set to compete in the World Boxing Cup event in Brazil, featuring boxers such as Sacha Hickey, Lauren Mackie, and Chantelle Reid in the women's team, and Ellis Trowbridge, Will Hewitt, and Teagn Stott in the men's lineup.
