Hull FC Announces Coaching Change as Cartwright Departs and McNamara Prepares to Take the Helm

John Cartwright has stepped down as Hull FC's head coach, effective immediately, paving the way for Steve McNamara to take over in 2027. McNamara, who will return to his boyhood club, has agreed to join Hull FC as their new head coach for the 2027 Betfred Super League season. In the interim, assistant coach Andy Last will lead the team for the remainder of the current season. McNamara, a renowned coach with a storied career, will continue to serve as an assistant coach at Warrington Wolves until the end of the 2026 campaign. His coaching tenure has spanned over two decades, with notable stints at Bradford Bulls, Catalans Dragons, and the England international side, as well as time in the NRL with Sydney Roosters and New Zealand Warriors. During his time with Catalans Dragons, McNamara led the team to unprecedented success, including a Challenge Cup final win, a League Leaders Shield, and two Super League Grand Final appearances. Hull FC's chief executive, Richie Myler, expressed his enthusiasm for McNamara's appointment, stating, 'We are delighted to secure Steve's services. He is a coach of the highest caliber and someone who truly understands this club and the city.'
