Billam-Smith Sets Sights on Opetaia After Joining Zuffa
Following his recent signing with Zuffa Boxing, Chris Billam-Smith has expressed his desire to face Jai Opetaia, aiming to solidify his position as the world's best. Billam-Smith, a former WBO cruiserweight champion, is now set to fight live on Sky Sports. His journey to the top includes a stint as the WBO cruiserweight world titleholder from May 2023 to November 2024, which ended with a loss to Gilberto Ramirez. However, he rebounded with a win over Zuffa stablemate Brandon Glanton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. Opetaia, also a Zuffa fighter, recently became the inaugural Zuffa world cruiserweight champion after defeating Glanton. Billam-Smith emphasized that his deal with Zuffa includes facing top opponents like Opetaia, stating, "We're two of the biggest names in the cruiserweight division... I've signed with promoters to chase certain fights and that's what I'll be chasing." With a multi-fight deal in place, Billam-Smith is eager to return to the ring after over a year, having been in training since January, and is looking forward to an imminent fight announcement.
