Bromley Miss Opportunity for Promotion After Goalless Draw with Cambridge

Bromley's bid for promotion to League One has been put on hold after they were held to a 0-0 draw by Cambridge United at Hayes Lane. Cambridge had two golden opportunities to take the lead within the first 15 minutes, with Ben Knight and Dominic Ball both failing to find the target when presented with clear chances. Knight poked the ball wide after being put through on goal, while Ball's shot from Liam Bennett's cutback went narrowly wide. It took Bromley 25 minutes to create their first scoring chance, with Omar Sownunmi's header sailing over the crossbar after beating goalkeeper Jack Walton. Cambridge continued to threaten and Shayne Lavery hit the bar with a header from Adam Mayor's cross on the half-hour mark. The second half was slow to get going, but Knight's powerful drive from an angle forced a sharp save from Grant Smith, which seemed to spark the hosts into life. Ben Thompson then saw an effort from close range saved by Walton, before Jude Arthurs' follow-up chance was deflected over. With 10 minutes remaining, Smith made a superb save to tip Kelland Watts' header over, but despite a late scramble in the goalmouth, neither side could find a breakthrough.
