Rahm Secures Victory in Mexico as LIV Golf Faces Uncertainty

Jon Rahm wrapped up a turbulent week on the LIV Golf circuit with a commanding six-shot victory at the LIV Golf Mexico City event, closing with a seven-under 64 on Sunday. This marks his second win this year on the Saudi-backed tour. The week was marred by speculation surrounding the financial stability of the league, following reports that the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) may be withdrawing its financial support. In response, LIV Golf CEO Scott O'Neil sent a memo to staff assuring them that funding was secured through the end of the year. The event itself was not without issues, including a power outage on Tuesday and a two-hour streaming outage during the opening round. Despite these challenges, LIV Golf announced its return to Chapultepec Golf Club next year. Rahm, who went winless on the LIV Golf circuit last season, began the final round strongly, making birdie on the second hole and eagling the next, to play bogey-free golf. His win came as a surprise to himself, given his disappointing performance at the Masters, where he tied for 38th. Bryson DeChambeau, who was attempting to win his third consecutive LIV Golf event, withdrew from the final round due to a wrist injury. DeChambeau stated that he did not want to exacerbate the injury and hoped to be back in competition at the LIV Golf Virginia event on May 7-10. Rahm's Legion XIII team also secured its first win of the year. David Puig finished second, shooting 66, and is now likely to qualify for the PGA Championship, with another strong finish potentially earning him a spot in the US Open. The next LIV Golf League event is scheduled for May 7-10 at Trump National Golf Club in Washington DC.
