Rugby World Cup winner Ellie Kildunne has spoken out about her secret battle with body dysmorphia, which began during the 2020 lockdown. Despite her impressive performance in the 2022 Rugby World Cup, including scoring five tries, Kildunne has revealed that she felt isolated and alone after the tournament. She has now shared her story of unhealthy weight loss and her struggles with an eating disorder that developed during the pandemic. Kildunne, who recently released her autobiography 'Game Changer', explained that she would often see herself as bigger in the mirror, despite being considered small in the rugby world.
She has credited a physio session at her previous club, Wasps, with helping her to confront her issues and seek support. With the help of lead physiotherapist Emily Ross, Kildunne was able to open up about her problems and start her journey towards recovery.
She now feels more in control and hopes to use her platform to help others who may be struggling with similar issues. Kildunne wants to show that even successful athletes like herself can face difficulties and that it's okay to ask for help.
