LIV Golf CEO Scott O'Neil has alleviated concerns about the series' funding, stating that it is secure for the current season and that the organization will work diligently to ensure its continuation. This comes amid speculation that Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF), which backs the breakaway golf league, may withdraw its financial support.
The PIF has invested a reported $5 billion in the series since its inception in 2021. O'Neil's reassurances were prompted by comments from LIV team captain Sergio Garcia, who hinted that funding was in place until 2030. Despite reports of an 'emergency meeting' in New York and claims that the PIF is reviewing its investments, O'Neil remains confident in the league's future. 'We have commitments to have this being a going concern,' he said.
'The reality is, you're funded through the season, and then you work like crazy as a business to create a business and a business plan to keep us going.' LIV Golf players, including Jon Rahm, have expressed minimal concern about the league's future, with Rahm stating that he was 'not too worried' about the rumors. The PIF has not commented on the matter, and no official decision has been made regarding the continuation of funding.
