Joel Tomkins Leaves Catalans Dragons as Head Coach Due to Personal Circumstances

Joel Tomkins has announced his departure from Catalans Dragons, citing personal reasons for his decision to step down as head coach after nearly a year in the role. Tomkins, a former England international in both rugby league and union, found the distance from his family challenging and made the decision to leave after a recent period back home. Initially appointed as an interim coach following Steve McNamara's departure, Tomkins was later given the permanent position at the club where he spent the latter part of his playing career. "My 18 months at Catalans Dragons have been a mix of highs and challenges, which I've valued as a new head coach," Tomkins reflected. "I've grown both personally and professionally and appreciate the friendships and experiences gained. However, the prolonged time away from my family has been tough. After spending time back home recently, I've decided to step away and conclude my time at the club." Tomkins expressed gratitude to the players, staff, and supporters, wishing the club success for the remainder of the season and beyond. His absence from the last three fixtures had sparked speculation about his future, during which the team secured one win. Ryan Sheridan, along with assistant coaches Micky McIlorum and Mitchell Pearce, will take over as interim head coach, starting with the upcoming game against Warrington Wolves on April 18.
