Carlos Alcaraz has pulled out of the Barcelona Open due to a wrist injury, which has been deemed more severe than initially anticipated. The Spaniard, a two-time champion in Barcelona, was forced to withdraw after experiencing wrist pain during his opening match against Otto Virtanen.
Alcaraz had been seeking to regain the world No 1 ranking but will now focus on recovery ahead of upcoming tournaments, including the defence of his French Open title. Meanwhile, British No 1 Cameron Norrie advanced to the quarter-finals in Barcelona, while Katie Boulter and Iga Swiatek also progressed in their respective tournaments.
