Promotion Hopes Put on Hold: Bromley Held by Cambridge to Goalless Draw

Bromley's bid for League One promotion has been put on hold after they were held to a 0-0 draw by Cambridge United at Hayes Lane. Cambridge had the better of the early chances, with Ben Knight and Dominic Ball both missing opportunities to open the scoring within the first 15 minutes. Knight was clean through on goal but poked the ball wide, while Ball screwed a shot inches wide from Liam Bennett's cutback. Bromley's first real chance came after 25 minutes, when Omar Sownunmi's header bounced over the crossbar with goalkeeper Jack Walton beaten. Cambridge continued to threaten, with Shayne Lavery hitting the bar from Adam Mayor's cross on the half-hour mark. The second half was slow to get going, but Knight's fierce drive on the angle drew a sharp save from Grant Smith, which sparked the hosts into life. Ben Thompson then saw an effort from close range saved by Walton, before Jude Arthurs' follow-up chance was deflected over. With 10 minutes remaining, Smith made a brilliant save to tip Kelland Watts' header over, but despite a late goalmouth scramble, neither side could find a breakthrough. The result means Bromley's promotion push will have to wait, while Cambridge remain in the hunt for a top spot.
