Castleford Deliver Stunning Upset Against Wigan

In a remarkable turn of events, the struggling Castleford Tigers managed to pull off a 24-14 win against Wigan at the Brick Community Stadium, thanks to an outstanding performance in the second half. Following a dismal 34-0 loss to Wakefield in their previous league game, which left them at the bottom of the table, the Tigers quickly made their presence known with an early try from Krystian Mapapalangi, courtesy of a swift break down the left flank, and Tom Weaver successfully converted the try. Wigan, who were seeking to level with the league leaders, appeared to be on the verge of scoring in the 16th minute when Jai Field broke through, but a brilliant defensive tackle by Mikaele Ravalawa prevented him from grounding the ball. The home team's hopes were further dampened when Dayon Sambou scored for Wigan in the 24th minute with an impressive diving catch in the corner, and Adam Keighran successfully kicked the extras from a tight angle. Wigan took the lead shortly before halftime with a high kick from Jack Farrimond being knocked down by Sambou, allowing Zach Eckersley to score, and a penalty from Keighran made it 14-6. However, Castleford regrouped after the restart and Jack Ashworth powered through down the left in the 45th minute, before Mapapalangi scored another try, putting the visitors back in front. The Tigers sustained their momentum as George Lawler broke through three Wigan defenders to score a fourth try just before the hour mark, with Weaver's successful conversion extending their lead to 10 points. Despite a video review disallowing another try from Weaver due to obstruction and Wigan successfully challenging a late penalty, Castleford managed to close out a well-deserved victory as the clock ticked down.
