Fitzpatrick Edges Out Scheffler in Thrilling PGA Tour Play-Off

English golfer Matt Fitzpatrick overcame a late stumble to claim his second PGA Tour victory of the season, defeating world number one Scottie Scheffler in a play-off at the RBC Heritage. Fitzpatrick had taken a three-shot lead into the final round at Harbour Town Golf Links and initially extended his advantage with two birdies in his first three holes. However, Scheffler rallied with back-to-back birdies to force a play-off after Fitzpatrick bogeyed the final hole. In the play-off, Fitzpatrick sunk a 12-foot birdie putt on the par-four 18th to secure the win. 'I got off to a great start,' Fitzpatrick said. 'I knew Scottie would make a few birdies, so I had to hang in there.' The victory propelled Fitzpatrick to a career-high world ranking of third and made him the fourth Englishman to win multiple PGA Tour titles in the same season. Fitzpatrick's win also marked his second RBC Heritage title in four years. Scheffler's runner-up finish was his second in consecutive weeks, following his close second place at The Masters. The PGA Tour now heads to Louisiana for the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, where Fitzpatrick will partner his brother Alex in the two-man team event.
