Mainoo Nears New Manchester United Deal

Manchester United's manager Michael Carrick has stated that midfielder Kobbie Mainoo is nearing a new contract with the club. This development comes after Sky Sports News reported in March that both Mainoo and Harry Maguire were close to agreeing new terms, with Maguire's contract being announced recently. Although the 20-year-old's deal has not been confirmed, it is expected to include a substantial pay increase, reflecting his growth within the team over the past few seasons. His current contract, signed in 2023, is set to expire in the summer of 2027. The proposed new agreement is a five-year deal that would run until 2031. Carrick expressed optimism about the situation, saying, 'We're getting closer, we're positive with that.' Mainoo's potential new contract marks a significant turnaround in his fortunes at Old Trafford, as he was not part of previous head coach Ruben Amorim's plans. However, since Carrick took over, Mainoo has featured in each of the ten Premier League matches and has become a key player. He was also included in Thomas Tuchel's latest England squad, playing in both games against Uruguay and Japan. With Carrick's own future at the club uncertain, he appears to be on track to become the next permanent manager, having led the team to seven wins in ten games and lifted them to third in the Premier League.
