McIlroy Reflects on 'Incredible' Masters Victory

Rory McIlroy expressed relief and joy after securing his second consecutive Masters title, overcoming a challenging final round at Augusta National. McIlroy, who became the fourth player to achieve back-to-back Masters wins, admitted that it would have been difficult to accept not converting his record-breaking halfway lead into a victory. Despite building a six-shot lead, McIlroy found himself two behind Cameron Young during the final day but responded with four birdies to claim a one-shot win over Scottie Scheffler. McIlroy joined Jack Nicklaus, Sir Nick Faldo, and Tiger Woods as the only players to win The Masters in successive years, and he was delighted to have persevered and secured his sixth major title. He acknowledged that winning The Masters is always a challenging task, especially given the nature of the golf course and what is at stake. McIlroy completed the third leg of the Grand Slam in 2014 and had 10 unsuccessful attempts to claim The Masters before finally winning it in his 17th and 18th appearances at Augusta National.
