Arne Slot expressed his disappointment but not surprise over the VAR decision to overturn a penalty awarded to Liverpool in their Champions League quarter-final match against Paris Saint-Germain. Slot shared his thoughts, 'I'm not surprised as so many decisions have gone against us this season. It's quite simple. If the referee doesn't give a penalty, the VAR would have never overturned it, but I've seen so many soft penalties given, and people say VAR can't interfere because there is contact.' Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate also felt it was a clear penalty, stating, 'For me, it was a clear penalty. I was behind the referee. If we get the penalty and score, it would have been completely different.' The first leg also saw PSG denied at least one spot kick, with VAR overturning a decision against Konate for a foul and opting not to punish him for a push on another player. In the post-match press conference, Slot reiterated his surprise at the overturning given the contact, but not when it comes to his team, citing multiple instances this season. The pressure is on Slot as Liverpool has failed to build on their Premier League win under his leadership, despite significant summer signings. Slot defended the club's transition model, stating, 'The club has sold 8-10 players to make money to sign five or so very talented players. We have to sell to buy. We are losing some players on a free transfer, Mo Salah and Andy Robertson. It is a big challenge in the summer, but the club has shown this model works.'
