Leeds Rhinos Thrash Huddersfield Giants as Croft Scores Four Tries

The Leeds Rhinos secured a convincing 56-22 victory over the Huddersfield Giants in the eighth round of the Super League at the Accu Stadium, with Brodie Croft scoring four tries. This win propelled the Rhinos to the top of the Super League table on points difference, while the Giants dropped to 11th place. Huddersfield had entered the match on a high note, having won against the Wigan Warriors and York Knights following the dismissal of their head coach, Luke Robinson, with assistant coach Liam Finn taking temporary charge. However, the Rhinos proved too strong, extending their winning streak to three games. The Giants started strongly, with Lachie Miller kicking out on the full, and George King scoring an early try. Despite this positive start, the Rhinos took control, scoring rapidly and securing the win before halftime. Croft was the first to score for Leeds, followed by Jarrod O'Connor, who showcased his game intelligence to put his side ahead. James McDonnell's pass to Jack Bird led to another try, and a significant moment arrived when Ryan Hall, the Super League's top try scorer, achieved his 250th try for Leeds. Miller added to the Rhinos' dominant first half with a clever chip that he chased down himself. The Giants managed to respond just before the break, with Jacob Dougles scoring in the corner, but the Rhinos maintained a 28-10 lead at halftime. In the second half, the Rhinos continued their momentum, with Cameron Smith benefiting from a 40/20 by Jake Connor, and Croft scoring his second try. Croft soon completed his hat-trick, but the Giants fought back through Jacob Gagai. Maika Sivo extended his try-scoring streak to 15, and Croft used his agility to score his fourth try. Although Olly Russell scored late for the hosts, it was too little, too late, as they succumbed to defeat. Despite the strong attacking performance, Leeds Rhinos head coach Brad Arthur expressed concern about his team's defensive showing, stating that it required more 'urgency and desperation' and was 'not good enough.' Arthur emphasized the need for his team to prioritize defense, saying, 'We need to care a bit more about our defense. It's not good enough. The boys were a bit flat in the sheds on the back of that defensive performance.' The Rhinos' head coach acknowledged the team's desire to play attacking football but stressed the importance of balancing this with resilient defense.
