Fitzpatrick Edges Scheffler in Thrilling PGA Tour Play-off
Matt Fitzpatrick claimed his second PGA Tour victory of the season with a nail-biting play-off win over world number one Scottie Scheffler at the RBC Heritage. Fitzpatrick, who had taken a three-shot lead into the final day, overcame a late wobble to triumph in the play-off, securing his second RBC Heritage title in four years. The Englishman got off to a strong start, extending his lead with two birdies in his first three holes, but Scheffler closed the gap with back-to-back birdies to force a play-off. Fitzpatrick held his nerve, firing his approach to 12 feet and rolling in the birdie to seal the win. The victory lifts Fitzpatrick to a career-high world ranking of third and makes him the fourth Englishman to register multiple PGA Tour titles in the same season. Fitzpatrick's win also sets him up for the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, a two-man team event where he will partner his brother Alex Fitzpatrick.
