McIlroy Vows to Improve for Masters Victory

Rory McIlroy acknowledges the need for improvement if he is to successfully defend his Masters title on the final day, following a disappointing third round that saw him relinquish a six-shot lead. Despite starting strongly with rounds of 67 and 65, McIlroy's one-over-par 73 on Saturday left him level with Cameron Young on 11 under. McIlroy struggled with his iron play, hitting just 10 of the 18 greens in regulation, and made three bogeys, including a double bogey at the 11th after finding the water. In a post-round interview with Sky Sports Golf, McIlroy expressed his awareness of the challenges ahead, stating, 'I knew today wasn't going to be easy. The quality of the chasing pack was very obvious, and a lot of the guys went out and played superb golf.' McIlroy remains optimistic about his chances, saying, 'I still have a great chance. I'm in the final group, which is exactly where you want to be. I wish I had a little bit more of a cushion, but I'm going to go to the range here and try to figure it out. I'll need to be better tomorrow.' With his victory last year marking the end of an 11-year major drought, McIlroy is determined to build on that success. He believes that having won the Masters previously and being in a different final playing group will aid his chances, allowing him to 'play a little bit freer' and 'play like I've already got a green jacket.' Sky Sports Golf's Rich Beem attributes McIlroy's resilience to his ability to put disappointment behind him and focus on the task at hand, saying, 'He's got such a great mindset to just forget, forget exactly what happened the day before, or even two or three holes ago.' The final round of the Masters will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Golf, starting at 4:30 pm on Sunday.
