Wednesday evening promises to be an exciting one with competitive racing at Southwell, live on Sky Sports Racing. The Come Racing For Free 18th June Novice Stakes is set to be a thrilling encounter, featuring three unexposed colts. Goldinthesea, having recently switched from Joseph O'Brien's yard to Ed Bethell's, is an intriguing runner after impressing at Dundalk in January. The form has been boosted, with the third-placed horse winning since, and this son of No Nay Never could have a productive future with his new connections.
Penny Time is another exciting runner, having bolted up at Southwell last month, beating a previous winner into second, and will bid to win for the third time in three starts. Owen Burrows' Sassicaia has only seen the track once, winning at Wolverhampton in December, and like the other two, remains an unknown quantity with potential for more to come.
Debutant Shadow Boxer, costing €520,000, represents Victorious Forever, and the market will reveal more about this colt. Another competitive race is the Ladies Day Sunday 16th August Fillies' Handicap, where three last-time-out winners clash. Cool Molly is up three pounds after winning the All-Weather Vase Fillies' Handicap at Lingfield 12 days ago, and has to be respected.
Vencedora, carrying the famous Sheikh Mohammed Obaid colours, has a different profile, being lightly raced and unexposed for Karl Burke, having her first run of the season after winning for the first time in a three-runner race at Newmarket in September. Rogue Citation comes here with a similar profile to Vencedora, having only run twice, with her only win coming last time out here in October.
It will be interesting to see how they have wintered and whether they can compete against a race-fit filly in Cool Molly. The finale sees Seven Fires attempt to complete a hat-trick on just her fifth career start in the Summer Socials At Southwell Racecourse Fillies' Handicap. Her two wins came at Newcastle, showing versatility, and she steps back up to six furlongs today. Top-rated Barefoot Beach bids to bounce back to winning ways after losing little in defeat when second at Kempton last time out.
Zighy got off the mark when last seen and George Boughey's filly could yet prove better still, having not been out of the three in all five of her starts.
