Mercedes Working to Improve Race Starts Ahead of Miami Grand Prix

According to George Russell, the Mercedes team is putting in significant effort behind the scenes to enhance their performance at the start of races, with the Miami Grand Prix in May being their next challenge. Despite achieving four front-row lockouts in the initial three Grands Prix and Sprint events, neither Russell nor his teammate has managed to take the lead after the first lap. Mercedes' biggest weakness lies in their starts, but they have demonstrated sufficient pace to recover and secure victories in the first three races. Ferrari has shown exceptional starting skills this season, thanks to their compact turbo, which enables faster spin-up times and makes it easier to find the ideal launch window. While drivers can practice starts during free practice sessions on Grand Prix weekends, they have limited opportunities to hone their skills. Russell emphasized that although practice chances are scarce, the team is focusing on analyzing data to address their sole significant flaw. 'A huge amount is happening behind the scenes,' Russell stated, highlighting the team's efforts to improve through simulator analysis and data review. With the Miami and Montreal Sprint races approaching, the team is working diligently to enhance their performance.
