Alcaraz Withdraws from Barcelona Open Due to Wrist Injury

World-class tennis player Carlos Alcaraz has been forced to withdraw from the Barcelona Open due to a right wrist injury. The two-time champion in Barcelona had initially planned to participate in the tournament to regain his world No 1 ranking but was compelled to pull out after his opening match. Alcaraz had beaten Otto Virtanen 6-4, 6-2 but experienced wrist pain during the game. Following a medical examination, it was determined that the injury was more severe than anticipated. As a result, Alcaraz will now focus on his recovery in preparation for upcoming tournaments, including the defence of his French Open title. Meanwhile, British No 1 Cameron Norrie has progressed to the quarter-finals in Barcelona after a tough three-set match against Ethan Quinn, while Katie Boulter has also advanced to the last eight in the Open de Rouen. On the WTA Tour, Iga Swiatek secured a quarter-final berth in the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, marking her first match with new coach Francisco Roig.
