Mercedes Intensifies Efforts to Enhance Race Starts

According to George Russell, the Mercedes team is diligently working to improve their race starts, a crucial aspect they aim to perfect before the Formula 1 season resumes in Miami. Despite achieving four front-row lockouts in the initial three Grands Prix and Sprint, neither Russell nor his teammate has managed to secure the lead after the first lap. The team's inability to start strongly is their most significant weakness, but they have consistently demonstrated sufficient pace to recover and win the first three races. Ferrari, on the other hand, has shown exceptional starting prowess this season, thanks to their compact turbo, which enables quicker spin-up times and facilitates finding the ideal launch window. While drivers have limited opportunities to practice starts, restricted to the end of free practice sessions during Grand Prix weekends, Russell emphasizes that the team is thoroughly analyzing data to address their starting issues. In an interview during Pirelli tire testing in Germany, Russell highlighted the extensive work being done 'behind the scenes' to rectify their starts, including simulator sessions and data analysis from the first three races, in preparation for the upcoming Miami and Montreal sprint races.
