In a shocking turn of events, Azleet has catapulted herself into the Betfred 1000 Guineas fray following a stunning victory in the Lanwades Stud Nell Gwyn Stakes. The Stuart Williams-trained filly, who was largely overlooked at 50-1, produced a breathtaking performance to claim the top spot.
Settled at the rear of the pack by jockey Marco Ghiani, Azleet began to make her move inside the final three furlongs and found her stride on the rising ground. In a nail-biting finish, she edged out America Queen by a neck, with Act Of Kindness finishing a length and a half behind in third.
Williams expressed his delight, stating that they will take a chance in the 1000 Guineas, which will be a special moment for him to have a Group One runner at Newmarket. The trainer attributed Azleet's success to her high-class ability and the brilliant ride by Ghiani.
