Charlton Inches Closer to Championship Safety with Draw Against Sheffield Wednesday

Charlton has moved closer to securing their Championship status after a 1-1 draw with Sheffield Wednesday. The Addicks took the lead in the 49th minute through Matty Godden's goal, but Gabriel Otegbayo equalized for the Owls in the 76th minute. The draw leaves Charlton six points clear of the relegation zone with three games remaining, while Wednesday remains unbeaten in their last three games. Charlton had several chances to take the lead, with Godden heading wide and later hitting the crossbar with an acrobatic effort. Wednesday's Max Lowe also had an opportunity, but his long-range strike was off target. The visitors came close to taking the lead just before halftime, with Godden's effort coming back off the crossbar. In the second half, Charlton made a perfect start, with Godden turning quickly and scoring from a tight angle. Sonny Carey later struck the inside of the left post as Charlton pushed for a second goal. However, Wednesday found an equalizer when Otegbayo tapped the ball into an empty net after Charlton keeper Will Mannion failed to hold on to a cross. Otegbayo could have won the game for Wednesday late on, but his effort from a cross at the back post was wide. Sheffield Wednesday's manager, Henrik Pedersen, praised his team's performance, saying they played with courage and deserved their equalizer. Charlton's manager, Nathan Jones, felt that his team dropped two points and should have won the game, but acknowledged that Sheffield Wednesday is a difficult team to play against.
