Emma Raducanu Out of Madrid Open Due to Ongoing Fitness Concerns

Emma Raducanu is prioritizing her rehabilitation and has withdrawn from the Madrid Open, following previous withdrawals from the Miami and Linz events. The British number one is recovering from an illness she contracted in Romania and is focusing on regaining full fitness. Raducanu has also opted out of Great Britain's Billie Jean King Cup qualifier against Australia. Currently back in training, she aims to compete in the Rome tournament starting in May. Her last match was at Indian Wells on March 8, where she lost to Amanda Anisimova. Raducanu acknowledged that she needs to work on her game, particularly in being more aggressive and leveraging her strengths. Since parting ways with coach Francisco Roig in January, Raducanu has been informally working with Mark Petchey to regain her form. The Italian Open, beginning on May 5, will be her next clay court opportunity, followed by events in Strasbourg and Rabat leading up to the French Open. Raducanu joins a list of high-profile players, including Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic, and Barbora Krejcikova, who have also withdrawn from the Madrid Open.
