Skelton Hails 'Unbelievable' Achievement After Securing Trainers' Title

Dan Skelton has expressed his elation after officially becoming this season's champion trainer, having made it mathematically impossible for anyone to catch him. The Alcester-based trainer had previously seen the title slip through his fingers on the final day of the previous two seasons, with Willie Mullins emerging as the winner. However, Skelton has dominated from the start this season, becoming the first trainer to exceed £4 million in prize money. "It's truly amazing - we've worked incredibly hard over the past few years to get close, and it's fantastic to have finally achieved it," said Skelton, whose current total stands at £4,762,920 for the season following a brilliant Grand National Festival. "This achievement is a testament to the entire team's efforts and dedication this year. We're thrilled with how everyone has performed, and the horses have been consistently brilliant. I'd like to extend my gratitude to the staff and, most importantly, the owners who have supported me and helped us reach this position. It's an absolute pleasure to have finally crossed the finish line, and we're delighted to have done it for the owners and to have had the opportunity to work with our amazing horses." In recent years, Skelton has faced intense competition from Mullins in the final weeks of the season, but this time, Mullins' presence is expected to be limited in the last two weekends, with only one entry in the Coral Grand National and the season-ending bet365 Gold Cup at Sandown. With the pathway now clear, Skelton can savor his victory ahead of receiving the trophy for the first time at Sandown Park on April 25.
