McIlroy Claims Consecutive Masters Titles in Thrilling Finish

Rory McIlroy has made history by becoming the first back-to-back winner of The Masters since Tiger Woods, after a dramatic final round at Augusta National. McIlroy started with a six-stroke lead but found himself two strokes behind early on, before responding with crucial birdies to claim a one-shot victory. The defending champion avoided a repeat of last year's late stumble, taking a two-shot lead into the final hole and closing out the win with a two-putt bogey. McIlroy's one-under 71 saw him finish on 12 under, one ahead of Scottie Scheffler, with Tyrrell Hatton's final-round 66 securing third place alongside Justin Rose, Cameron Young, and Russell Henley. This victory marks McIlroy's sixth major title, joining an elite group of players including Jack Nicklaus, Sir Nick Faldo, and Woods, who have won consecutive editions of The Masters. McIlroy's journey to the top was not without its challenges, as he faced stiff competition from Young and Rose, who both enjoyed stints in the lead during the final round. However, McIlroy's perseverance and skill ultimately paid off, as he took advantage of key opportunities and managed to stay ahead of the pack. The world No 2 reflected on his win, saying, 'I just can't believe I waited 17 years to get one Green Jacket and I get two in a row. I think all of my perseverance at this golf tournament over the years has really started to pay off.' Scheffler carded a bogey-free 68 to finish runner-up, while Rose narrowly missed out on the top spot despite a strong performance. The PGA Tour now heads to South Carolina for the RBC Heritage, with the next men's major being the PGA Championship from May 14-17.
