Aston Martin's Struggles to Continue Throughout the Season

According to Sky Sports F1's Martin Brundle, Aston Martin's dismal start to the 2026 season is far from over. Despite the promising partnership with design genius Adrian Newey and Honda as their new works engine partner, the team has failed to impress, struggling to score points in the first three race weekends. The only time one of their cars completed a full Grand Prix was when Fernando Alonso finished 18th in Japan. Brundle believes the team's current plight is a result of neither speed nor reliability, making it challenging to turn things around amidst the relentless Formula 1 championship calendars and cost caps. He predicts that significant improvements are unlikely to happen until 2027. The team's current performance gap of three to four seconds per lap is substantial, making it difficult for them to catch up with the front runners. Aston Martin and Honda are working hard to address their issues, including engine vibrations that have caused reliability problems. The team is also awaiting catch-up upgrade opportunities under the Additional Development and Upgrade Opportunities (ADUO) rules for 2026. Fellow Sky Sports F1 commentator David Croft shares Brundle's sentiments, stating that the team's long-term project to rectify their issues will take time, and scoring a point this season seems unlikely unless multiple cars retire.
