Ekitike Ruled Out for Season and World Cup Due to Achilles Injury
Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike will miss the remainder of the season and the World Cup with France after suffering a severe Achilles injury. The 23-year-old was forced to leave the field during the Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain at Anfield and subsequent scans have confirmed a rupture of the Achilles tendon. As a result, Ekitike is expected to be out for at least six months, with the possibility of an extended absence of up to nine months. France head coach Didier Deschamps expressed his support for the player, stating that Ekitike had become an integral part of the team and his injury is a significant blow. The news comes at a critical time for Liverpool, who are fighting to secure a spot in next season's Champions League. Ekitike's injury adds to the list of setbacks the team has faced this season, with several key players, including Alexander Isak, having struggled with injuries. Liverpool is currently fifth in the Premier League, three points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa and four points ahead of Chelsea.
