Norris Unveils McLaren's Strategy to Defend Their Title

Despite a sluggish start to the season, Lando Norris is confident that McLaren can still mount a strong title defense when the F1 season resumes at the Miami Grand Prix. The reigning champion has yet to secure a podium finish in the first three races, but his teammate Oscar Piastri's second-place finish in Japan has provided a glimmer of hope. With nearly five weeks to work on their cars, Norris believes there is ample opportunity to turn their fortunes around. 'I think we can have a good season, even if we're not where we want to be right now,' Norris said, trailing early championship leader Kimi Antonelli by 47 points. He emphasized that the team will not give up on their title aspirations, instead choosing to push hard for the championship. Norris cited past examples where the team has overcome slow starts to finish the season in a stronger position, and he trusts that the team can replicate this feat. To get back in contention, Norris identified the need to address reliability issues that have plagued their car and Mercedes power unit. He also stressed the importance of maximizing track time to understand how to get the most out of the car. The team is utilizing the break between Japan and Miami to fill the gap in their understanding, with a focus on simulator work and a recent tyre test at the Nurburgring. Piastri also expressed confidence in the team's ability to close the gap to Mercedes and consistently challenge for victories over the remaining 19 races. 'We have a lot of work to do, but closing the gap to Mercedes and out-developing the field is something that's within our control,' Piastri said, highlighting the team's proven ability to turn their season around.
