Castleford Deliver Stunning Upset Against Wigan

In a remarkable turnaround, Castleford, who had been struggling in the Betfred Super League, stunned Wigan with a 24-14 win at the Brick Community Stadium. Following a dismal 34-0 defeat to Wakefield in their previous league match, which left them at the bottom of the table, Castleford bounced back with a strong second-half performance. The match began with Castleford silencing the home crowd as Krystian Mapapalangi scored an early try down the left, with Tom Weaver successfully converting. Wigan, seeking to level with the league leaders, had a try-scoring opportunity in the 16th minute when Jai Field broke through, but a brilliant defensive tackle by Mikaele Ravalawa stopped him from grounding the ball. Wigan eventually got on the board in the 24th minute with an athletic dive from Dayon Sambou in the corner, followed by Adam Keighran's successful conversion from a tight angle. The Warriors took the lead shortly before half-time with Zach Eckersley's try and a penalty from Keighran. Castleford regrouped at the restart, with Jack Ashworth scoring down the left in the 45th minute, and Mapapalangi adding another try after an improvised kick-through. The visitors maintained their momentum as George Lawler scored a fourth try just before the hour, with Weaver's conversion extending the lead to 10 points. Despite a video review ruling out another try from Weaver for obstruction and a successful captain's challenge from Wigan, Castleford closed out a well-deserved victory.
