Veteran England lock Joe Launchbury has confirmed his decision to hang up his boots at the end of the current season. Over the course of his illustrious career, the 35-year-old earned 70 caps for England between 2012 and 2022, claiming three Six Nations championships and participating in the 2015 and 2019 Rugby World Cups. Since joining Quins from Toyota Verblitz in 2023, Launchbury has made 50 appearances, although he has been limited to just six outings this term.
In a statement on Harlequins' website, Launchbury reflected, "The time has come to step away from rugby, and I feel it's the right moment to do so. "I feel incredibly fortunate to have represented England on 70 occasions, to have spent many years with Wasps, and to have had the privilege of playing for Harlequins, as well as experiencing a season in Japan.
"I'd like to extend my gratitude to my teammates, both past and present. The bonds we've formed transcend the sport, and I've always enjoyed the company of those I've been lucky enough to call teammates. You've all made the challenges worthwhile.
"Rugby has given me so much more than I could have ever imagined. It's not only provided a career but also a life filled with purpose, friendships, and memories that will stay with me forever.
