Mercedes Working to Improve Race Starts Ahead of Miami Grand Prix

George Russell has revealed that Mercedes is putting in significant effort to enhance their race starts, a weakness that has hindered the team despite their strong pace. With four front row lockouts in the first three Grands Prix and Sprint, neither Russell nor teammate Kimi Antonelli have managed to take the lead after the opening lap. However, the team has been able to fight back and secure wins due to their overall speed. Ferrari, on the other hand, has excelled at starts this season, thanks to their compact turbo, which allows for quicker spin-up times and better acceleration off the line. Russell emphasized that while the team has limited opportunities to practice starts, they are focusing on analyzing data to address this flaw. In an interview during Pirelli tire testing in Germany, Russell stated that a lot of work is being done behind the scenes, including simulator sessions and data analysis, to improve their starts. The team is looking to make the most of the upcoming Miami Grand Prix, the season's second Sprint weekend, and is working diligently to rectify their weakness.
