He Guoqiang, ranked 47th in the world, secured his spot in the tournament by defeating Jack Lisowski in the qualifying rounds and will make his Crucible debut against O'Sullivan on Tuesday. The 25-year-old is one of 11 Chinese players participating in the championship, including reigning champion Zhao Xintong, who will face Liam Highfield in the opening match. Four-time champion John Higgins is set to face Ali Carter, while another four-time winner, Mark Selby, will take on 2024 finalist Jak Jones. The tournament commences on Sunday and concludes on May 3-4. Since the introduction of 32 players in the first round in 1982, all 16 top seeds have never advanced to the second round. Zhao Xintong aims to break the 'Crucible Curse' by becoming the first debut champion to successfully defend the title. O'Sullivan, making his 34th consecutive appearance at the iconic venue, was the last first-time champion to reach the semi-finals in 2002. The first-round draw features a mix of seasoned players and newcomers, including 19-year-old Stan Moody, who will make his Crucible debut against 2024 champion Kyren Wilson.
