Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike will miss the remainder of the season and the World Cup after suffering a serious Achilles injury. The 23-year-old sustained the injury during the Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain and scans have confirmed a rupture of the Achilles tendon.
Ekitike's recovery timeline is uncertain, but he could be out for at least six months. France head coach Didier Deschamps expressed his support for the player, saying, 'Hugo will regain his top form, I'm convinced of it.' The injury is a significant blow to Liverpool, who are aiming to secure a Champions League spot, and to France's World Cup hopes.
Ekitike had scored 19 goals for Liverpool and France this season after joining from Eintracht Frankfurt for £79m last summer.
