Itoje Expresses Confidence in Borthwick's Leadership

England captain Maro Itoje has voiced his unwavering support for head coach Steve Borthwick, emphasizing the team's potential to achieve remarkable success under his guidance. Despite a disappointing Six Nations campaign, which saw England finish fifth after four consecutive losses, including a historic defeat to Italy, Itoje remains optimistic about the team's future prospects. With the RFU chief executive Bill Sweeney indicating that Borthwick will be given the opportunity to lead the team in the upcoming Nations Championship, Itoje believes that the coaching staff, including Richard Wigglesworth, Kevin Sinfield, Joe Shaw, and Lee Blackett, possess the expertise to steer the team towards success. Itoje acknowledged that England's performance in the Six Nations fell short of expectations, given their 11-Test winning streak prior to the tournament. However, he expressed his faith in Borthwick and the coaching staff, stating, 'We believe in what we're doing.' Itoje emphasized the importance of learning from their mistakes and moving forward as a team, saying, 'We just need to get together as a team, learn the lessons and move positively forward.' He reiterated his confidence in the team's ability to achieve great things, saying, 'I have a lot of faith, a lot of belief in this England team, and I think this England team is going to go on to do special things.'
