Both Hughes and Edwards have contracts until 2027 and are anticipated to remain in their positions for a crucial summer at Anfield. The club has faced criticism for a record-breaking £500m transfer spend last summer, which has seen the team's performance decline. However, Liverpool is reportedly satisfied with the work done by Hughes and Edwards. The duo's priorities will include finding a replacement for Mohamed Salah and maximizing the potential of big-money signings Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz. Since the summer of 2024, Hughes and Edwards have overseen £459m in spending, with the majority of it coming last summer. They have offset a significant portion of this expenditure by selling £290m-worth of talent. Speculation had surrounded Hughes' future due to interest from Al Hilal, while doubts about Edwards' position arose after FSG reportedly shelved plans for a multi-club model ownership group. Edwards had cited FSG's commitment to acquire and oversee an additional club as a key factor in his decision to return to Liverpool in March 2024. Hughes and Edwards were responsible for hiring Arne Slot, who led the team to a title in his first season. Liverpool's transfer strategy changed significantly last summer, with the club spending a record £446.5m, but this approach backfired, and the team is now fighting for Champions League qualification.
