Bromley Miss Opportunity for Promotion After Goalless Draw with Cambridge

Bromley's bid for promotion to League One has been put on hold after they were held to a 0-0 draw by Cambridge United at Hayes Lane. Cambridge had two gilt-edged chances to take the lead within the first 15 minutes, with Ben Knight and Dominic Ball both spurning opportunities. Knight shot wide after being put through on goal, while Ball screwed a shot inches wide from Liam Bennett's cutback. Bromley's first sight of goal came after 25 minutes, with Omar Sownunmi's header bouncing over the crossbar with goalkeeper Jack Walton beaten. Cambridge had another chance to break the deadlock on the half-hour mark, with Shayne Lavery's header from Adam Mayor's cross crashing against the bar. The second half was slow to get going, but Knight's fierce drive on the angle drew a sharp save from Grant Smith, which seemed to spark the hosts into life. Ben Thompson saw an effort from close range saved by Walton, before Jude Arthurs' follow-up chance was deflected over. With 10 minutes remaining, Smith made a brilliant save to tip Kelland Watts' header over, but despite a late goalmouth scramble, neither side could find a way through. The Super 6 jackpot of £250,000 is up for grabs and is free to play, with entries accepted until 3pm on Saturday.
