Norris Unveils McLaren's Strategy to Clinch the Championship Title

Lando Norris is confident that McLaren can still mount a strong title defense when the F1 season resumes at the Miami Grand Prix, despite the strong starts of Mercedes and Ferrari in the new era. Although Norris, the reigning champion, did not achieve a podium finish in the first three races, his teammate Oscar Piastri finished second in Japan, demonstrating an improved performance from McLaren prior to the enforced break in April. With nearly five weeks to work on their cars, Norris believes there is ample opportunity to reverse their fortunes. 'I think we can have a successful season, even if we're not currently where we want to be,' Norris stated, trailing early championship leader Kimi Antonelli by 47 points. 'We want to push hard for the championship; this isn't about giving up and focusing on next year.' Norris cited past examples where McLaren overcame early season struggles to finish strong, and expressed trust in the team's ability to replicate this. Ensuring the reliability of their car and Mercedes power unit is a key focus area for Norris. 'We're not in a terrible position, but we need to work to get back in contention for wins,' he added. Norris emphasized the importance of understanding the car and power unit, stating that 'tiny margins make significant differences.' The team is utilizing the break to address these issues, including a tyre test at the Nurburgring. Piastri also expressed confidence in McLaren's ability to consistently challenge for victories over the remaining 19 races. 'We have a lot of work to do, but closing the gap to Mercedes and out-developing the field is within our control,' he said. 'This team has proven its ability to turn things around, and I trust that we will do everything possible to achieve this.'
