Garnacho Reflects on Manchester United Departure: 'I Made Mistakes'

Alejandro Garnacho has spoken candidly about his departure from Manchester United, acknowledging that he made mistakes during his final six months at the club. Garnacho's £40m transfer to Chelsea last summer followed a pre-season where he was not part of Ruben Amorim's first-team plans. Prior to his exit, Garnacho was spotted wearing an Aston Villa shirt with Marcus Rashford's name on it, sparking controversy. After United's Europa League final loss to Tottenham, Garnacho's brother alleged that Amorim had unfairly criticized him. When asked if he regrets his Old Trafford exit, Garnacho expressed mixed feelings, saying, 'Maybe yes, because I loved the club. They gave me confidence from the start, bringing me from Spain to the academy and then to the first team.' He added, 'In the last six months, I wasn't playing like before. I started to be on the bench, which isn't a bad thing, but in my mind, I felt I had to play every game.' Garnacho took responsibility for his actions, stating, 'Maybe it's also on me; I started to do some bad things.' Despite this, he expressed pride in his decision to join Chelsea, saying, 'Sometimes you have to make decisions, and I'm proud to be here and still in the Premier League at a club like this.' Amorim reflected on Garnacho's departure, saying, 'You can understand and see he's a really talented boy, and sometimes things don't work out.' The Manchester United manager noted that Garnacho wanted a different leadership style, which he understood. Meanwhile, Michael Carrick is poised to become the club's next manager, having led the team to seven wins in 10 games since January and lifting them to third in the Premier League.
