Glasgow's Hopes of Reaching Champions Cup Semi-Finals Dashed by Toulon

The Glasgow Warriors' bid to secure a spot in the Investec Champions Cup semi-finals came to an end with a narrow 22-19 defeat at the hands of RC Toulon at Scotstoun. Despite being favourites due to their strong home form, Franco Smith's side struggled to contain Toulon, who ultimately emerged victorious with four tries to Glasgow's three. The win sets Toulon up for a last-four clash against either Leinster or Sale. Glasgow was forced to make a late change before kick-off, with Macenzzie Duncan replacing the injured Max Williamson on the bench. The home side took an early lead after Toulon racked up penalties in their own 22, with Alex Samuel and Ben Afshar combining to send Stafford McDowall over for the first try. However, Toulon quickly responded through Jeremy Sinzelle and Gael Drean. A trademark run by Kyle Steyn carried Glasgow back into Toulon territory, but Sione Tuipulotu was held up just short of the line. Toulon's ill-discipline was punished when Junior Kpoku was shown a yellow card, and Glasgow took advantage of the extra man with McDowall picking out Ollie Smith for a brilliant try. The hosts soon found themselves on the back foot, with Jean-Baptiste Gros scoring a converted try to level the scoreboard at 12-12. Toulon took the lead for the first time through Melvyn Jaminet and Drean, but Glasgow started the second half strongly and regained the lead through Gregor Hiddleston. The French side enjoyed a period of pressure before finally breaking through with Nacho Brex scoring a try. Warriors had one last chance to get back in front, but Toulon forced the turnover to seal the win. In another match, Leinster Rugby secured their place in the semi-finals with a 43-13 win over Sale Sharks, scoring six tries in the process. They will face Toulon in the next round.
