Exeter Clinch Thrilling Win Over Benetton with Slade's Late Penalty

A dramatic late penalty from Henry Slade sealed Exeter's 44-41 victory over Benetton, setting up a semi-final showdown against Ulster in Belfast. The hosts had taken the lead through Jacob Umaga's try with 15 minutes remaining, but Slade's precision kicking ultimately decided the outcome, much to the dismay of the home crowd. The first half was a frantic affair, with Exeter establishing a 14-7 lead courtesy of Olly Woodburn's score and a penalty try, before extending their advantage to 24-14 through Immanuel Feyi-Waboso's try and Slade's conversion and penalty. However, Benetton rallied to level the scores at the break, thanks to an outstanding try from Onisi Ratave and Umaga's conversion and penalty. The second half was equally intense, with Harvey Skinner's converted try restoring Exeter's lead, only for Bautista Bernasconi to draw Benetton level once more. Although Andrea Zambonin's try put Exeter 38-31 ahead, Umaga's penalty and subsequent try, which he converted, gave Benetton their first lead since the eighth minute. Nevertheless, Slade's decisive penalty in the 78th minute secured Exeter's hard-fought win. In another quarter-final tie, reigning Investec Champions Cup holders Bordeaux overcame Toulouse 30-15 to book a semi-final date with Bath. Bordeaux's defence proved resilient in the face of early Toulouse pressure, before Maxime Lamothe's try from a maul in the 23rd minute gave them the lead. Toulouse responded immediately through Romain Ntamack's try, but a red card for Dorian Aldegheri late in the first half hindered their progress. Despite this, Toulouse took a 12-5 lead into the break, only for Bordeaux to mount a second-half comeback. Matthieu Jalibert's try, combined with Ben Tameifuna's score and Maxime Lucu's penalty, propelled Bordeaux into a commanding position. Any lingering hopes of a Toulouse revival were extinguished when Arthur Retiere touched down Bordeaux's fourth try, followed by Lucu's penalty, to seal a 30-15 victory.
