Three-time Olympic gold medalist Adam Peaty secured the 100 meters breaststroke title at the Aquatic Great Britain Swimming Championships, marking a significant step towards his goal of competing in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. With a time of 58.97 seconds, Peaty achieved the second-fastest time globally this season, indicating a strong potential for medal contention in two years. He outperformed world junior champion Filip Nowacki, who finished in 59.39 seconds, and Max Morgan, who finished in 59.56 seconds. Despite his success, Peaty acknowledged room for improvement, stating, 'I didn't think I could achieve that result, so that's now the baseline.' The six-time Olympic medalist expressed his desire to push himself further, aiming to achieve a time of under 57 seconds. Peaty, who has been training diligently, emphasized his passion for swimming and commitment to the sport. Since his decision to continue competing, Peaty has demonstrated his dedication, having previously taken a break due to mental health concerns and a subsequent 'self-destructive spiral.' At the Paris 2024 Games, Peaty won silver in the 100m breaststroke, hindered by physical issues, including a positive Covid test. If he wins gold in 2028, Peaty will become the oldest British swimmer to achieve this feat, at the age of 33.
