Manchester United's Harry Maguire has received an additional one-match ban for misconduct, resulting in his absence from the upcoming Chelsea game. An independent regulatory commission imposed the ban on April 1, citing Maguire's improper behavior towards fourth official Matt Donohue after being red-carded in the March 20 match against Bournemouth.
Maguire had reacted to being sent off for denying a goalscoring opportunity and will now miss the trip to Stamford Bridge on Saturday, in addition to serving his initial suspension in the 2-1 defeat to Leeds. The 33-year-old admitted to the offense and was fined £30,000.
According to the FA's written reasons, Donohue claimed Maguire used abusive language as he left the field, although Maguire claimed he only said 'it is a joke.' With Maguire and Lisandro Martinez both suspended, Manchester United's center-back options are limited, with potential alternatives including Leny Yoro, Ayden Heaven, Luke Shaw, or delving into the youth ranks.
