Somerset's Rew Tipped for England Call-Up as Hampshire Stages Comeback

Somerset, the current Division One leaders, encountered stiff resistance from Hampshire on the second day of their match at the Utilita Bowl. After losing seven wickets for 113 runs, Somerset was bowled out for 288, and their 50-run lead was erased in Hampshire's second innings. Hampshire reached 146 for one at the end of the day, taking a 96-run lead, with Nick Gubbins scoring an unbeaten 70. England prospect James Rew was the first to fall in the morning session, scoring 86, but his Test ambitions were praised by head coach Jason Kerr. Kerr stated that Rew is capable of playing international cricket, having scored a significant number of runs over the years. Although Kerr has not used Rew as an opener, he believes Rew has the talent to play for England, whether as an opener or in the middle order. Meanwhile, in another match, Essex and Warwickshire were competing for control at Edgbaston, with Essex reaching 110 for three after Warwickshire was bowled out for 190. In Division Two, Gloucestershire's match against Lancashire saw 23 wickets fall in two days, with Lancashire taking a lead before being bowled out for 240. Gloucestershire will resume their innings on 58 for three, trailing by 46 runs. Elsewhere, an unbroken partnership of 131 between Nathan McSweeney and James Sales helped Northamptonshire stay in the game against Middlesex, who were bowled out for 341.
