Carrick: Mainoo Nears New Manchester United Deal
Manchester United's Michael Carrick has revealed that the club is nearing a new contract agreement with Kobbie Mainoo, with the midfielder's deal expected to include a significant pay rise. The 20-year-old's current contract, signed in 2023, runs until 2027, but the club wants his new agreement to reflect his progression and status within the first team. A five-year deal until 2031 is being proposed. Carrick stated, 'We'd like to think so. It's getting closer, we're positive with that.' Mainoo has featured in each of the ten Premier League matches since Carrick took over and has become a key player. His future at the club looked uncertain earlier in the year, but his fortunes have turned around under Carrick's management. The midfielder was also included in Thomas Tuchel's latest England squad, featuring in both games against Uruguay and Japan. With Carrick's own future at the club unresolved, he remains focused on the task at hand, having made a strong case for the permanent manager position by winning seven of his 10 games since January and lifting United up to third in the Premier League.
