Can India Afford to Overlook Sooryavanshi, and Is England His Next Destination?

At just 15 years old, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has made history by becoming the youngest player to score a century in the Indian Premier League, achieving this feat a mere nine days after his record-breaking debut at the age of 14 in 2025. Now, Sooryavanshi continues to impress, fueling discussions about his potential debut on the international cricket stage. His remarkable abilities were on full display during his debut IPL season, where he scored a 35-ball hundred as a 14-year-old, and he has consistently demonstrated his capacity to thrive under pressure with the Rajasthan Royals. Sooryavanshi has already achieved two 15-ball fifties against the Chennai Super Kings and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and is currently the third-highest run-scorer in the tournament, with 200 runs from five innings at an impressive strike rate of 263.15. Despite a recent golden duck in a defeat to the Sunrisers Hyderabad, which served as a reminder of his humanity, Sooryavanshi's exceptional ball-striking power, physical presence, and composure at the crease have left seasoned professionals in awe. "It's unbelievable how someone can hit the ball like that. He's an incredible talent, and we're fortunate to have him on our team," said India and Rajasthan Royals wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel. "When Vaibhav is smashing every ball, it can be deceiving, making you think the wicket is easier than it actually is. Cricket isn't as effortless as he makes it look." With potential international teammates like Jurel praising his abilities, it raises an important question. Given India's wealth of emerging talent and their T20 team's recent World Cup victory, it remains to be seen whether selectors will choose to alter a winning formula. However, occasionally, a player emerges who is so exceptional that they cannot be overlooked. Sooryavanshi appears to be among the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Yashasvi Jaiswal. His impressive 175 runs helped India secure a 100-run victory over England and claim a record sixth title in the U19 World Cup final in Harare, demonstrating his ability to compete against the best. With a packed summer of white-ball fixtures ahead, Sooryavanshi has ample opportunities to make his international debut. If he is not given a chance in the upcoming multi-format series against Afghanistan, his breakthrough could come when India faces Ireland and England in seven T20Is and three ODIs in June and July. Whether it happens this summer or not, it seems inevitable that Sooryavanshi will soon receive a call from India, putting the cricket world on notice.
