Triple Olympic gold medalist Adam Peaty secured the 100m breaststroke title at the British Aquatic Championships, setting his sights on the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Peaty's time of 58.97 seconds ranks as the second-fastest globally this season, hinting at a strong medal prospect in two years. He outperformed world junior champion Filip Nowacki and Max Morgan, finishing in 59.39 and 59.56 seconds, respectively. Despite his victory, Peaty believes there is room for improvement. "I didn't expect to achieve this result, so it's now my baseline," the six-time Olympic medalist stated. "My goal is to get back to a low 57 seconds. As a competitor, I strive to push myself to the limit." Peaty trains daily and remains committed to the sport, having overcome a challenging period that included a break from swimming in 2023 due to mental health concerns and a 'self-destructive spiral.' Following his Olympic debut in Rio 2016, where he won the 100m breaststroke gold, Peaty repeated this feat in Tokyo 2020 and also claimed gold in the 4x100m mixed medley. At the Paris 2024 Games, he took silver in the 100m breaststroke due to physical issues, including a positive Covid test. If successful in 2028, Peaty could become the oldest British swimmer to win an Olympic gold medal at the age of 33.
