With the F1 schedule halted in April due to the cancellation of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix, Verstappen has added the NLS4 and NLS5 races to his expanding GT3 calendar. Verstappen has teamed up with seasoned endurance driver Lucas Auer, nephew of former F1 driver Gerhard Berger, in the Red Bull-livered Mercedes-AMG GT3 car for Verstappen Racing, competing against a 37-strong GT3 field at the Nurburgring Langstrecken-Serie. A minute of silence will be observed at the start of Sunday's live stream of the second four-hour race on skysports.com and the Sky Sports app, following the passing of driver Juha Miettinen after a multi-car crash that led to the suspension of Saturday's race. On his return to NLS action last month, Verstappen and his teammates, driving the Mercedes, secured a first-place finish but were later disqualified due to exceeding the permitted tyre allocation.
