Manchester United Edges Closer to Securing Mainoo's Future

According to Michael Carrick, Kobbie Mainoo is nearing a new contract agreement with Manchester United. This development comes after Sky Sports News reported in March that both Mainoo and Harry Maguire were on the verge of signing new deals, with Maguire's contract being announced recently. Although the 20-year-old's deal has not been confirmed, it is expected to include a substantial pay increase, reflecting his growth and current status within the team. His existing contract, signed in 2023, runs until the summer of 2027. Manchester United is keen to finalize a new five-year agreement that would run until 2031, better reflecting Mainoo's progression over the past few seasons. Carrick, whose own future at the club remains uncertain, expressed optimism about the negotiations, stating that the situation is 'getting closer' and that the club is 'in a good place' with Mainoo. This potential deal marks a significant turnaround for Mainoo, who was initially not part of previous head coach Ruben Amorim's plans. Since Carrick took over, Mainoo has featured in every Premier League match and has become a key player, even earning a spot in Thomas Tuchel's latest England squad. As Manchester United manager, Carrick has made a strong case for himself, having won seven of his 10 games since January and lifting the team to third in the Premier League. With a top-five finish likely to secure his position, Carrick appears to be on course to become the seventh manager to succeed Sir Alex Ferguson.
